Since 1952 the NZ Modern School of Music has provided Kiwis of all ages throughout the country with a fun, modern approach to learning music. No matter your age or musical experience, NZ Modern School of Music teachers in the Taupo/Tongariro region are available to give you expert tuition. We offer piano and keyboard at all levels and beginner guitar lessons. All of our teachers are well organised, dedicated and passionate about music and teaching.
The school encourages creativity and improvisation in practical work, as well as emphasizing the importance of theory.
Our goal is to make music lessons enjoyable and educational, by catering our teaching methods, pace and materials to the student's unique ability and learning style. We encourage our students to try a wide range of music styles from modern to blues, latin, jazz, classical, and contemporary music as well as composing their own music. We believe all students should be able to play music that they know and enjoy, and lessons are designed with that in mind. We follow our own fun, in-house curriculum (with our own music books) that have been created to help students develop their technique and music reading skills. All lessons are private and one-on-one to ensure your tutor's complete and undivided attention is on you and on helping improve your knowledge.
All students have the opportunity to complete practical and theory exams if they would like, although this is not compulsory. Annual competitions are also run for ages up to 18 years. In addition to students being offered exams and competitions, teachers also run end of year concerts and other performance opportunities are available.
